The Ultimate Holiday Decorating Guide

VERSION FRANÇAISE

It’s that time of the year again! My favorite time of the year. I love everything about Christmas. The family reunion, the chocolates, the presents giving, the Christmas songs, movies and cards, Santa, the smell of snow (for the luckiest of us who get to spend snow-filled Holidays), the festivities, and the most important of it all, the decorations. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without all the decorations. From the shop windows on the streets, to your own house. Fairy lights, christmas tree, candles, garlands, wreaths, mistletoe are a must at this time of the year.

This is your perfect guide for the ultimate magical and enchanted Christmas home. The pixie dust of your Christmas!

four tricks to master christmas decoration

THE THEME
I suggest you to chose a theme for your holidays decoration every year! This is the key for a coherent and unified Christmas home. Pick one of your choice, it can be as simple as colors (not many. I’d suggest three maximum), or a real theme as “wonderland”, “masquerade”, “classic Christmas'“ and such. I personally, love to pick colors, it’s simple yet super effective. I just love a minimalist, simple, sober theme and natural textures. But that’s me, you can go crazy if you like!
My theme is generally very simple: white and another color of our choice depending of the year. Brown, gold, silver, red, etc. Sometimes even only one color can make quite an impression. A couple of years ago, we opted for white and light pink theme, it was very pretty and soft. But I love a good traditional theme like a white and red. This year, we decided on white and brown with a very light touches of silver.

DON’T WAIT THE LAST MINUTE
I’ll admit, it’s already late. Late for Christmas decorations and even later to write this article. But better late than never!
I love to organize Christmas very early, in Europe and Middle East, Halloween isn’t quite the event as in North America, and we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving either. So when the summer ends, we automatically think Christmas right away. I’ve always started the countdown to Christmas at the end of August - yes, I love Christmas - but this year I have to say that I got so busy that I couldn’t even plan ahead. But here we are and it’s not too late to plan the way you’re going to “Christmas-tise” your home!

HOLD ON TIGHT TO TRADITIONAL ITEMS
As I mentioned creating a theme and sticking to it is important, but Christmas is all about the traditions. Do hang the wreaths your beloved nephew made for you, use the old porcelain your mom used to take out every Christmas dinner, even if it doesn’t go with the theme you chose this year. If it’s important to you, just go with it.

PINTEREST IS YOUR BEST FRIEND
No matter what you have in mind, even the craziest theme; I can assure you that Pinterest will help you a lot.
