Cravings Chap. I | Recipe & Poll
ARE PREGNANCY CRAVINGS A REAL THING?
I’m now about 5 months pregnant, and I still didn’t get the truth out of this half fact half myth.
We all have heard stories of husbands going all around the city for strawberries at two in the morning, but truth is, it isn’t like this at all for me. So yes, I’ve been craving a couple of things since the beginning of my pregnancy - cravings which by the way I haven’t been able to satisfy because of seasonal issues… Summer please come faster; but I haven’t had these unconditional needs to have something at these exact same moment I thought of that particular food (again, strawberries at 2am). However, in my case, it’s more about being beyond disgusted by almost every food you can think of: I know what I don’t want to eat (or smell), but knowing/finding what I want to eat is a whole other problem. I‘ll admit though, after a week or so in the second trimester, it got better, and could vary my diet again, but at some point all I could eat was plain and overcooked pasta, steamed potatoes, and canned lentils, all these mixed with pre-meal and post-meal nauseas. A real blast!
However, as I mentioned earlier, I did and still am craving peaches and nectarines as well as watermelons. I’v been trying to compensate with some substitutes such as peach hot teas and peach iced-teas, even raspberries for some reason, of very little or no avail. Am I just not asking my husband to get me peaches at two in the mornings simply because I know that they’re just unaccessible where we live, in this period of the year? Are cravings not as real as some women want us to believe, or are my cravings just not as strong? Seems like I’ll get part of the answer when the Summer will come. In the meantime for the lucky ones among you, that have access to summer fruits at the moment or all year round, here is a very easy homemade peach lemonade that (hopefully), I’ll be making very soon!
